Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.
The philosophy behind INDUS is based on two important facts. First, almost all important political changes start with an idea, originating from people who spend a great deal of their lives thinking. And, second, most major public policy reforms in the modern era originated in the academic world.
INDUS is one such idea. It emerged at the NED 2012 Convention in Washington, D.C.: “Gather, consolidate, and blend the powerful support of Pakistan scholars, writers, and journalists with the un-relenting and passionate desire of Pakistanis around the globe and within the country to see a stronger and politically stable Pakistan.”
It is no secret that after sixty-six years of existence Pakistan continues to struggle with some very fundamental issues that form a critical basis for national wellbeing. INDUS was born out of this concern and the necessity to get back to basics. INDUS is conceived as a think tank and research organization.
As a virtual think tank fully exploiting the modern media, INDUS organizes strategy sessions devoted to identifying main policy and governance issues that Pakistan faces today. This is followed by identifying critical issues of a fundamental nature, where INDUS can sponsor debate and research and make a difference.
INDUS is our effort to create awareness and to mobilize Pakistan’s intellectual capital, in Pakistan and overseas, to help evolve leadership that will eventually help attain sustainable political stability and strong pluralistic governing institutions. INDUS focuses on leadership, policies, and institutions to achieve strong, passionate, and selfless political leadership within Pakistan.
INDUS is:
- A constructive forum for exchange of ideas
- An informed and independent voice on policy debates
- An Institution that transforms ideas and emerging problems into policy issues
- An organization that transforms results of research on issues into policies
